Cascara Tea

NOTE: We're out of cascara at the moment. Please check back in late-spring or summer.

The roasted seeds are not the only delicious part of the coffee plant. The dried fruit of the coffee cherry, known as cascara in Spanish, can be steeped in water like tea, creating a delicious hot beverage. Coffee has been consumed this way for hundreds of years in Ethiopia and Yemen, where it is called Hashara or Qishr.

Although cascara is indeed a natural form of coffee, don't put it in your grinder. Steep the whole, dried coffee cherries like tea and you will be rewarded with a glimpse into the diversity of coffee flavor and coffee history. We love it hot and freshly brewed, as well as over ice.
